Statement
My art is done from necessity, it is my play, my relaxation, not work. I don’t feel the pressure of deadlines, only the pleasure the pleasure of the process. I work in many media creating masks, mixed-media figures, fiber art and paintings.
My acrylic paintings have a multitude of textures derived from applying exotic papers, maps, found materials, post cards, even fabric. Half of the fun for me is assembling a stack of colored papers and objects which complement each other, these then form my color palette. They become the backdrop, but also intermingle with the subject of the painting. The result is unexpected and loose. My subject matter ranges from the human form, to horses, dogs or totally abstract.
I want people to look at my art and smile, whether it is outright humor or just a comfortable feeling (such as viewing a painting of a dog with an innocent questioning expression who has just eaten a tennis shoe).
My current body of work is incorporating even more collage. I’m anxious to see where this leads me.
